Kamehameha the Great conquered the Hawaiian Islands in 1810 and established the Kingdom of Hawaii. A statue in his honor stands in front of Ali’iolani Hale, built 1874 as the royal palace for King Kamehameha V, and today housing the Hawaii State Supreme Court.
